Purpose of the MRANI Awards

The purpose of the MRANI Awards process is to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements and contributions of Ethnic Minority Communities in Northern Ireland. It serves as a platform to acknowledge individuals or organisations that have demonstrates exceptional performance, innovation and leadership within their respective industries. Through a rigorous evaluation and judging process, nominees are assessed against specific criteria and evaluated based on their achievements, impact and overall excellence. The transparency and fairness of the evaluation process are crucial in ensuring that the most deserving candidates are selected as winners.

MRANI NOMINATION RULES AND PROCESS

Eligibility:
Nominations are open to individuals and businesses who have made significant contributions to promoting diversity and inclusion within the workplace and also businesses and individuals from ethnic minority communities who have made contributions to the Northern Ireland.
Nominees must be currently employed, or have their business set up within Northern Ireland.

Self-nominations are also accepted.

Individuals – Communities & Schools

  • Inspiring Champion
  • Advancing Diversity & Inclusion Advocate
  • STEM, Healthcare, Transportation, Pharmaceutical (including Research & Development)
  • Sport Person of the year.

Ethnic Minority Businesses

  • Arts, Media & Advertising
  • Design & Fashion including Hair & Beauty
  • Hospitality (Food ,Restaurants & Takeaway…)
  • Business person of the year

Corporate Categories

  • Customer Service
  • Outstanding Management
  • Advancing Diversity & Inclusion Advocate
  • Young person in Tech/STEM

Nomination Period:
The nomination period is announced and open for a specified duration ( 6 months End Jan to Jul 24).

Nomination Submission:

Nominations can be submitted online through a dedicated nominations portal on the Minorities Recognition Awards NI website.

Each nomination should include the following information:

Nominee’s name, job title, and organization, contact.

Nominator’s name, contact information, and relationship to the nominee.

Category of the award for which they are being nominated

A written statement (maximum 500 words) highlighting the nominee’s achievements and contributions in promoting diversity and inclusion. This should include specific examples, initiatives, and outcomes.

Review and Evaluation:
A judging panel comprised of diversity and inclusion experts will review the nominations.

The panel will assess each nomination based on the criteria outlined for each award category.

All nominations will be reviewed confidentially and impartially.

Selection and Announcement:
The judging panel will select the winners for each award category based on their evaluation.

Winners will be notified individually and asked for their consent to be publicly announced.

The winners will be announced and honored at the Minorities Recognition Awards NI ceremony on the 04/10/2024 at Titanic Belfast.

Award Ceremony:
The Minorities Recognition Awards NI ceremony will be held at Titanic Belfast on the 04th of October 2024, honouring the winners.
During the ceremony, each award recipient might be given an opportunity to share their work and insights on diversity and inclusion.

Awards category explained
These categories provide an overview of the diverse sectors and industries represented within the Advancing Diversity & Inclusion, ensuring recognition for individuals who have made valuable contributions to diversity and inclusion within their respective fields.

 

1- Advancing Diversity & Inclusion Advocate: This award category recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in their respective fields and industries. This category encompasses various sectors and professions, including:

2- Arts, Media & Advertising: Nominees in this category have actively contributed to diversity and inclusion in the arts, media, and advertising industries, promoting diverse representation, inclusive storytelling, and equitable opportunities.

3- Customer Service: Nominees in this category have made outstanding efforts to foster diversity and inclusion within the customer service sector. They have shown a commitment to inclusivity in their interactions with customers, colleagues, and the community they serve.

4- Design & Fashion including Hair & Beauty: This category celebrates individuals in the design, fashion, hair, and beauty industries who have championed diversity and inclusion. They have actively created spaces for diverse voices, styles, and talents to be represented and uplifted.

5- Hospitality (Food, Restaurants & Takeaway): Nominees in this category have demonstrated exemplary efforts to champion diversity and inclusion within the hospitality sector. They have created inclusive environments, promoted diverse culinary traditions, and fostered equal opportunities for all employees.

6- Inspiring Champion: This award recognizes individuals who serve as role models and inspiring advocates for diversity and inclusion across all sectors. They have gone above and beyond to make a positive impact and have acted as catalysts for change.

7- Outstanding Management: Nominees in this category are recognized for their exceptional leadership and management skills in promoting diversity and inclusion within their organization. They have implemented inclusive practices, fostered diverse talent, and created inclusive work cultures.

8- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Maths,) including Healthcare, Transportation, Pharmaceutical, Research & Development: Nominees in this category have made significant contributions to promoting diversity and inclusion within STEM fields and related industries. They have actively worked to address underrepresentation, facilitate equal opportunities, and build inclusive ecosystems.

9- Employee Resource Group (ERG) Leader of the Year: Acknowledges an individual who exhibits outstanding leadership as the head or member of an Employee Resource Group. This person fosters a sense of community, leads impactful initiatives, and creates opportunities for ERG members to collaborate and contribute to the organization’s diversity and inclusion goals. This individual stands out for their innovative ideas, impact on the organization, and commitment to driving positive change.

10- Business person of the Year: This award category recognizes exceptional young person (below 35) who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in their respective fields. Nominees have also actively championed diversity and inclusion, paved the way for other young professionals, and served as strong role models.

11- Sport Person of the year: recognising the contributions of local heroes in the community, in a sport, physical activity or health and wellbeing setting

12- Young person in STEM/TECH: Nominees in this category should be under 30 have made significant contributions to promoting diversity and inclusion within STEM fields and related industries. They have actively worked to address underrepresentation, facilitate equal opportunities, and build inclusive ecosystems.

Publicity and Promotion of Awards Winners is a crucial aspect of the MRANI AWARDS process. Once the winners are announced , it is important to generate public awareness and recognition for their achievements.
This involve leveraging various promotion channels such as social media, press releases, industry publications to highlight the accomplishments of the awards recipients. The objectives is to create a positive buzz surrounding the winners and their businesses, enhancing their reputation and credibility in their respective communities. Additionally, organising media interviews and featuring the winners in relevant events or conferences can further enhance their visibility and provide opportunities for networking and collaboration. Through effective publicity and promotion, the MRANI AWARDS process ensure the outstanding achievements of the winners are acknowledged and celebrated.
